And people are impressed, especially anyone who hasn't paid attention to the evolution of manufactured housing, said dealer Scott Valdez , general manager of Oakwood Homes, 6900 Shields Blvd.
“If you haven't seen a mobile home in 10 or 15 years, you probably haven't seen one,” he said. “You'll see things that people don't expect.”
Outside, that means multiple dormers, bump-outs, steeper roof pitch and wood, brick and other exteriors seen on site-built houses, he said. Inside, it means drywall, thick crown molding, custom cabinetry and solid-surface and granite counters, he said.
“You'll see basically the amenities and quality you see in a site-built home,” Valdez said.
Who wants all that?
“Our market,” Gorman said, “is the guy who wants his own home and he's going to builders and they're telling him $90 to $100 a square foot, and we're telling him $30 to $40 a square foot.”
That's if the buyer already has a place to put the home. And if the buyer doesn't, it doesn't have to get complicated, he said.
“If a guy wants to go find a piece of land, we can pin it all together in one note,” Gorman said.
